The Northamptonshire town of Wellingborough lies mostly on the Northern bank of the River Nene on the hillside above the river's floodplain.
Centred around a busy market square which regularly hosts a popular local Farmers' market, Wellingborough has a multitude of high street chain stores at its heart as well as a large shopping centre, formerly The Arndale Centre now known as Swansgate, that offers a diverse range shops and services. Several large retail parks also dot the town's outskirts.
The town is currently implementing a regeneration action plan aimed at improving open spaces and shopping areas as well as highlighting Wellingborough's historic buildings and heritage.
Although the town was radically rebuilt in the 1970s, it still retains areas that reflect its long history, particularly the medieval architecture to be found along the high street. There are also several traditional pubs in the town centre with centuries of history behind them.
